BTS

I was having a blast at the street festival, just enjoying the time with my mum, when I
saw someone sitting alone, looking like they had just been through the worst day ever,
so I walked over and asked him if he needed help. He looked up and me and I could
see how distraught he was, overwhelmed, and clearly exhausted, then he said he did
need help. I asked how I could help him, but then realized there was a language barrier,
so quickly used my phone to find his language- Korean, which then helped me ask him
exactly what he needed me for. Turns out, he only had his backpack, with no wallet,
passport, money, or anything useful inside-just his toiletries and a change of clothes.

His name was Yoongi and although I recognized him instantly from BTS, I pretended to
be unsure of his identity and treated him like a normal guy. I offered to let him stay with
me, since I was alone and could tell he needed a soft place to land while we got his stuff
figured out, which he was hesitant about at first, but then saw me interacting with some
of the families I recognized at the festival, proving I was trustworthy enough for him to
rely on me during this vulnerable time. He followed me to the car and rode home with
me, then I showed him to my son’s room, where he could stay, and the hallway
bathroom for him to use and shower in, which made him smile with gratitude.

I knew he must be tired from the time difference and all the trauma of losing his
belongings, so I made him some spicy noodles, showed him how to shower, gave him a
fresh towel, then let him go to sleep while I got ready for bed by walking my little doggie
and showering first. At some point during the night, around 1am, he snuck into my room
(I had left the door open) and said he was scared and asked to cuddle. I haven’t had
personal space in ten years, so I scooted over and held up the blankets, so he could
climb in and soon he was snugged right behind me, snoring softly, clearly feeling better.
In the morning, Saturday, I woke up with him being on the inside of the bed, while I was
now on the outside and even though it was 7am, I knew he needed more sleep, so I
walked my little doggie, fed her, then started on laundry, making sure to wash his dirty
clothes with mine, so he would always have a fresh set available.

When he woke up at 11am, he looked like he had woken up from a long hibernation, his
hair sticking up and his eyes blinking with uncertainty- it was hilarious and adorable at
the same time, but I did not laugh at him. I made him breakfast, then waited for him to
change into his clean clothes (he was thankful I had washed them) and we went to the
closest Asian market, hoping to find some foods he liked and was familiar with, since he
was clearly going to be with me for a while- there was no way for him to travel without
his ID. He got so excited it made me happy to see him interacting with some of the
employees who spoke Korean, even asking them for advice on how to get replacement
documents from South Korea. We went to the bakery area, where an older lady was
working, and once she heard his story, she let him use her phone to contact the other
members to see if they could help. The leader, Joon, replied immediately, and Yoongi
gave him my number, so he could continue to contact him directly once we left the store.

He somehow figured out how to translate all the messages into Korean, so I just
gave my phone to Yoongi and told him to let me know if anyone needed me- otherwise
he could use it for however long he needed it.

He was so happy to have someone to speak with who might actually be able to help
that he would not stop talking the entire way back home, so I smiled, but had no clue
what he was saying, which made him laugh. He had several long conversations with
Joon, trying to get his documents over here, but neither one knew the proper way, so
they had to give up for now, since it was the weekend. I put all the stuff away Yoongi
had picked out, which I had bought because he had no money for anything, but I wasn’t
mad- he promised to pay me back, but I knew that kindness comes back when we most
need it, so I was happy to help him just because he needed it.

We needed to get him some extra clothes, since he literally had only two outfits, so we
went over to Target and he was able to find everything he needed, including socks and
undies, but was embarrassed when he had to choose them because he couldn’t read
the labels, so I used the phone to translate the measurements and we had a good laugh
afterwards. I told him not to be embarrassed because I wanted him to trust me, that
included washing his clothes so he could feel comfortable while being stuck here. We
got all his new clothes home, I washed them right away, and he was so happy he made
up a song about having clean clothes to wear, which made me laugh so hard I cried,
and he laughed in response to me. Joon called and even though I had no idea what
they were saying, Yoongi was telling him all about me and how friendly and caring I
was, even about the clothes, never asking for anything in return, always trying to make
him feel welcome, which Joon was glad to hear, but still worried about how to help
Yoongi with his documents.

That night, Yoongi told me he wanted to attempt to get adjusted to my time zone, since
it would probably be a while until he could return home- the passport office was booked
out for a month, but since he had no proof of ID, he couldn’t even make an appointment.
To save time and stress, Yoongi just started off snuggling me on Saturday, which I didn’t
mind, but I made sure to remind him that we were just friends- nothing more, which
thankfully he agreed to. I had no idea, but he was actually telling Joon to come meet
me, knowing I was much more suited for him, but he couldn’t tell me his plan because I
would ruin it. Yoongi woke up around 9:30am the next morning, having slept much
better and enjoyed another night of snuggles, just like when he was traveling with all the
other BTS members.

When I had to go to school on Monday, he could not join me, so I left my phone at home
with him and told him to call the school office if any emergencies happened, but also
gave him my dad’s number, just to be safe. Turns out, Yoongi spent the day convincing
Joon to bring his documents over to him, so he could get a new passport and travel

home eventually, and so Joon could meet me. Of course Yoongi did not tell me
anything, so when I got home and made us dinner, he met my son and purposely told
me his day had been simple- he had tried writing a song about his misfortunes but
hadn’t gotten very far without his music equipment at his home. I didn’t know how to
help, since I had no idea what he would even need, so I sympathized, but didn’t have a
solution. He enjoyed eating with us Monday night, seeing how wild my son is, then had
to wait for him to fall asleep before he could snuggle with me, since I could survive
being squished in between both of them. After my son fell asleep, I snuck out of his
room and joined Yoongi in my room, which reminded him of being with the other
members again.

I continued to go to school all week, while Yoongi stayed home with my phone and
continued to speak/text Joon, confirming his plan to bring the documents to him and
surprise me at the same time. Joon had no idea I did not know, and I had no idea what
Yoongi was planning, so it was a very sneaky plan indeed. Before I knew it, Friday came
and Yoongi said he needed to go meet someone by the apartment office to see if they
could help him, since this friend was also Korean, so I didn’t suspect anything and
continued cooking the food I was attempting to make- something Korean that involved
veggies and BBQ meat. I was using the stove when Yoongi returned, bringing someone
very tall behind him, with a suitcase and backpack, but I could not see that part because
I was busy in the kitchen.

Yoongi brought this friend over to the kitchen, then said, “JJ, this is Joon, my friend from
BTS who brought me the documents I need. I hope you aren’t mad that I invited him to
stay with us to help me.” I was shocked beyond belief, for several reasons: one, Yoongi
looked super embarrassed about not telling me, two, Joon looked even more so
because he realized I had never been told of his arrival plans, and three, Joon was very
handsome and tall, standing in my kitchen, staring at me while I cooked and probably
looked like a crazy lady. I accidentally touched one of the pans with my left hand,
burning myself, and they both got worried instantly. Joon grabbed my hand and turned
me to the sink to get the cold water on the burn, while Yoongi moved the pan off the
burner to avoid spilling anything while they helped me. I was too stunned to speak, but
nodded when Joon asked if I had burn gel for my hand. I walked down the hall to my
bathroom and got it, then brought it back out and handed it to Joon. He carefully took
the lid off, put a small amount on my hand, then looked into my eyes and asked if I
would be ok. Again, no words would form, but he could see how upset I was just by my
facial expression and apologized for clearly surprising me.

“Joon, I am not mad about your arrival, so please don’t think I am angry at all. I am
surprised about having another guest show up without my knowledge, especially since
Yoongi has had all week to tell me, since he was obviously using my phone to contact
you for help. I will be fine, just give me time to process this, since I am overwhelmed at

the moment.” He nodded and reached for my right hand, then squeezed it gently. I
turned my attention back to the stove, since I needed to finish dinner, but neither of
them would let me near it, so I had to direct them from the side, which I thought was
both hilarious and sweet- neither one of them had any idea what they were doing and
caused a few mini disasters, but I easily cleaned them up, so no harm was done.
We got all the veggies, meat, and rice ready, then they carried the food to the table, with
water glasses for everyone and chopsticks, which surprised Joon, since he did not know
Americans used them. We ate together, me trying to stay focused on listening to their
words, which were a mix of English and Korean, but both of them could tell I was not in
the mood for any silliness, since I was still shocked at Joon’s arrival and spicy about
Yoongi hiding it from me. Luckily, it was soon 8pm, so after dinner was cleaned up and I
had started the dishwasher, I told Yoongi to make sure Joon knew how to use the
bathroom, where to put his stuff in his room, etc. then politely excused myself to shower
and calm myself down. Yoongi knew I was escaping because I was upset, but didn’t
want to make it worse, so he let me go, explaining to Joon that I would rather keep the
peace than argue in front of others, much like Joon does.

After my shower, I was feeling much calmer, so I returned to the living room and Joon
helped me put more burn gel on my hand, which he did very carefully, while staring at
me and whispering things to Yoongi in Korean. I was not having any more shenanigans,
so I told Yoongi to stop excluding me unless he was prepared to translate-I deserved to
know what was being said in my own home. Yoongi blushed, then said I probably didn’t
want to know actually, since it was about me, which made me stare at both of them with
suspicious eyes. I assumed it was bad, but it obviously wasn’t, so Joon quickly ran
down the hall to have his shower while Yoongi apologized for surprising me with Joon’s
arrival- he just wanted us to meet so badly he could not wait and thought it would be ok.
I sighed, not being really mad at all, then just reminded him that even though you want
two people to like each other, you cannot force them into a situation and assume it will
work out. He was very sorry, but still asked me to cuddle him, so I agreed, but worried
about Joon because he was still on Korean time and would be up all night, so where
would he sleep eventually?

Yoongi said he preferred the bottom bunk, so Joon could cuddle me in my bed, since he
also loved to sleep next to others, just like the members had been doing for the past 12
years. I did not want to argue, so we went into the room where Yoongi was staying and I
snuggled him until he fell asleep, then could not hold my tears in any longer and
escaped to the hallway to cry by myself. I had closed the bedroom door, so Yoongi
wouldn’t hear me and thought Joon would be busy in the living room, since I could hear
his music playing on his phone. I sat at the end of the hallway, my head resting on my
knees, the tears just flowing out of nowhere, when Joon suddenly appeared, standing
over me, then asked if I was ok. I looked up, saw his worried, handsome face, he saw

my tears, and got his answer, so he reached for my hands and carefully pulled me up to
stand in front of him. Once I was wrapped in his giant warm hug, I did not hold back and
started telling him why I was so upset, not angry, about his arrival. He just listened
quietly, sometimes replying with kind words in Korean, but knowing I just needed to let it
out without being interrupted.

After a while, I was calm enough to look up at him, worried about me, then I apologized
for getting his shirt wet with my tears, which made him laugh. He wiped my cheeks and
put his forehead right on mine, then whispered, “I’m sorry you felt you couldn’t tell me all
of that earlier. I can see how upset my visit has made you and I am truly sorry for not
knowing you weren’t told. I believe Yoongi had good intentions, as he always looks out
for everyone else with his kind, shy heart. He told me so many amazing things about
you that I finally agreed to fly over to bring his documents and meet you myself. He was
not exaggerating, as everything he told me is absolutely true, even better than his
descriptions actually.”

He then kissed my forehead and put his cheek on mine, adding, “I have never met
anyone like you in all of my travels.” I blushed, even thought it was shadowy in the
hallway, and he gave me a shy grin, clearly understanding my answer without words. I
tried to cover my yawn, but he saw me and gently took my hand to lead me into my
room. I climbed into bed while he grabbed his phone to turn off the music and lights
before joining me. The next morning, I woke up to find myself sleeping in between Joon
and Yoongi, with me squeezed in the middle, both happily snuggling me and still asleep.
I sighed, then Yoongi opened his eyes and whispered to ask if I was ok. I gave him a
tiny smile and explained that I was not mad but wish he had told me sooner about
Joon’s plans, since it did make things more complicated for me when my son was here.
He kissed my cheek and said he was very sorry, but he knew Joon needed to meet me
for himself and the only way for that to happen was to bring him here, with his
documents, which Yoongi needed badly anyway. I couldn’t be upset at his genuine
concern and care for others, so I just nodded and sighed again, this time waking up
Joon in the process.

He saw me talking to Yoongi and asked how I slept, in the middle, which was actually
fine with me because I was used to having no personal space anyway. He brushed a
few hairs away from my face and kissed my other cheek, then apologized for not telling
me how beautiful I was last night when he had the chance. He said it wasn’t fair of him
to speak about me with Yoongi in Korean when I could not understand them. He also
made sure to let me know the things he said about me were compliments, since he
agreed with Yoongi about how amazing I really was.

I was now blushing hardcore, which he laughed about, kissed my cheek again, then got
up and pulled me right in front of him, wrapping me in a giant hug and smelling me in the process.

He whispered, “I will never grow tired of this feeling as long as I get to hold
you in my arms,” so quietly that Yoongi could not hear, which I was thankful for, because
it embarrassed me so much. I let him hug me for a minute or two, then gently
unwrapped his arms so I could use the bathroom. He used the one in the hallway and
we met in the kitchen, leaving Yoongi in the bedroom to sleep in a little. Joon followed
me outside to walk my little doggie, enjoying the nice spring morning air, while sneaking
looks at me and trying to hide his smiles. I stopped him on the patio when we were done
with the walk and asked, “Why do you keep looking at me, then immediately turning
away, or pretending to find something interesting to distract me?” He blushed and
replied, “I don’t have much experience around pretty girls, so I am trying to watch you,
but also respect you at the same time so you don’t get creeped out.” I laughed so hard I
almost fell over, then explained, “Joon, you could never be a creeper even if you tried.
How can you not tell that I am also attracted to you, or are you choosing not to see it
because you don’t really know me that well yet?”

He looked away, then back into my eyes, then ran his fingers through his hair and said,
“I was hoping you were attracted to me as well, but Yoongi said you might not be
because you were too afraid of having your heart broken again, so I might have been
worried about rushing things or pressuring you.” I squeezed his hands and told him,
“Joon, you have the benefit of an amazing friend named Yoongi, who has spent the
entire week telling you about my life. I just met you last night, but if you give me time, I
think we can meet in the middle.” He kissed one of my hands and smiled right at me.
